Fierce Mustache, Muddy Chaos, and Nothing Much Else: Two Cinematic Images of the BalkansNational-Louis University This article reviews the current North American scholarly and popular accounts on the Balkans as the framework to discuss two war films, Behind Enemy Lines and Harrison's Flowers. The depicted wars serve as a stage on which Western heroes exercise their moral superiority, winning over the amorphous Balkan characters.
